How to Change Your World in an Instant

I have a favourite story. It’s a story about a man who had the chance to be shown ‘heaven’ and ‘hell’.

“This is hell,” the guide said to Joseph as he opened the door.  Joseph saw a room full of people sitting around big wooden tables laden with an abundant supply of glorious-looking food. Joseph could even smell the mouth-watering aroma of the food. Everything on those tables looked exquisite. And yet, every person in that room was unhappy, upset and HUNGRY.

Upon closer inspection, Joseph noticed that nobody was actually eating, even though they were trying to do so. He noticed that everyone only had oversized, wooden spoons that extended as long as one arm’s length. Since everybody in that room was trying to feed themselves using these long wooden spoons, they couldn’t bring the food to their own mouths. Hence, everyone sat in frustration, and soon there were arguments and fighting ensued. Since these people couldn’t do anything else, many of them sat there complaining, blaming others or trashing the food around. Needless to say, everyone remained hungry and the food merely went to waste.

“What a sad, terrible place to be,” Joseph thought.

The guide said it was time to move on.

“Here is heaven,” the guide said as he opened a very similar door.

Joseph was baffled as he saw what was inside the room, for everything in that room was exactly the same as what he saw in hell – a room full of people holding long big wooden spoons, sitting around big wooden tables laden with a never-ending supply of the most exquisite, mouth-watering, glorious food.  But the people in heaven were satisfied, happy and full, for there was ONE big difference: the people in heaven were feeding each other.

  1. There is no ‘heaven’ or ‘hell’ as such, only situations – whether we make our situation into hell or heaven will be determined by the actions we choose to take. When you are faced with a challenge, do you whinge, complain and play the poor-me-I’m-a-helpless-victim script, or do you take the actions necessary to figure out what could work for you?
  2. The abundance I receive is proportionate to the abundance I freely give. You get what you give. If you want more, give more. If you want to be helped, help others first. If you want something from someone, give them something first. Contribute to their well-being by sharing your talents and knowledge and skills. When you are contributing someone of immense value, you will be rewarded accordingly.
  3. Everything we need and will ever need already exist in abundance – we simply need to learn how to access these. If you need more customers, someone somewhere have access to the names and numbers of people you want to reach. If you want more money, someone somewhere already has the knowledge about how to generate honest income, fast. The same could be said if you want peace of mind, happiness, health, loving relationships, etc. You just need to know how to access the appropriate resources, and most of the time it’s just a matter of asking the right questions to the right people. Believe me, it’s a lot easier than you think. I’ll share more about this in later posts. Hint: It has the potential to make you rich quickly and easily while helping other people.
  4. We only need to change ONE thing: Our  mindset! - With a simple change, we truly can turn ‘hell’ into ‘heaven’ – all we need to learn is go from scarcity-thinking to abundant-thinking. If you know everybody is looking out for you, wouldn’t you do the same for them? Wouldn’t you feel secure, unlimited, safe and empowered? The truth is we CAN do it here, now. It is possible to instantly eradicate world hunger – here and now, we can do it if we choose to. With one simple change, we can go from famine to feast, from poverty to wealth, from frustration to fulfilment.  It really is simple.

The only downside is that creating ‘Heaven’ can NOT fully happen unless we all make the change. As long as there are people who are unwilling to help others, as long as there are people who believe that the only way to gain is to rob another, as long as there are people who believe in competition rather than cooperation, heaven will remain a concept we could only hope to achieve someday.

Nevertheless, it only takes two people with the same abundant mindset to demonstrate what is true and what is possible, and we can start right where we are. Are YOU ready to use your long wooden spoon properly?

1. Change your mindset. Adopt an abundant mentality. Know that all you need and will ever need are already provided for. Focus on contributing, not taking away.  Think WIN-WIN, not WIN-LOSE. Be prepared to let go of your limiting beliefs. Be ready to get out of your comfort zone and take action every day.

2. Find like-minded people. Find people who are actively engaging in activities meant to allow them to live better, happier, richer lives. Associate yourself with these people.  Learn from them. Work with them. Seek out ways to help them achieve their goals, and actively contribute in any way you can. I am a member of the Dollarmakers Women’s Club, an online club dedicated exactly to helping me succeed in every way, not just financially. If you are male, go to the main Dollarmakers site and discover the power of joining forces with successful people who already have the abundant mentality. Find someone there who is already getting the results you want to achieve, and learn from them.

3. Educate and improve yourself. You can’t contribute greatly to other people’s lives if you are an ignorant and small-minded person. So improving yourself, educating yourself, developing yourself to posses valuable skills, connections and knowledge is a pre-requisite to success. What concrete action can you take now to be in a position to solve other people’s problems? Do it now, and do it well!

[...] Having a scarcity mentality prevents you from seeing bigger and brighter things. It’s the most common mentality of those people who call themselves entrepreneurs, but refuse to give away generous commissions to the people who regularly give them new customers. They don’t understand that if they want more, they must give more, that they receive what they give. [...]
