Let nothing stand in your way
What do you think is the most common reason why most people fail to achieve their goals?
What do you think is the most common reason why most people eventually give up on their dreams?
I personally think people fail because they do NOT set goals effectively – which then causes them to not follow through or stick around long enough until they achieve their goals.
Most people just say something like, “I want to be super rich”, or “I want to become financially free”, or “I want to be my own boss someday,” – and that’s it. It just remains an aspiration, a dream that they hope will come true without their active involvement.
No wonder only a very small percentage succeed.
To achieve goals effectively, you must set your goals in a way that simply leaves no room for any other option but SUCCESS.
In this article, we’ll cover proven tactics to help you set goals in such a powerful way that it’ll make you be naturally disciplined, motivated and focused. Yep, you can put an end to feeling torn between two selves every time you try to change for the better; you can forget about having to force yourself to do something, or feeling like you are making a sacrifice or depriving yourself.
So if you’re one of those people who always had a problem finishing what they started, you’ll want to pay close attention and make sure you apply these tips diligently. If you do, it’s guaranteed that you will change from ‘lazy’ to Motivated, from ‘loser’ to utterly Unstoppable!
Let’s get started.
1. Raise Your Standards!
Most people don’t find the motivation to change until they hit rock bottom. But “rock bottom” is different for every person. Your standards will define if “rock bottom” is having mounting bad debts of 20K or 40K or 60K, or if it’s going bankrupt due to excessive spending on things you could have easily lived without.
Raising your standards means making a firm decision about what you’re NOT going to accept or tolerate in your life anymore.
Let’s face it: you wouldn’t change until you want it bad enough.
Bad enough to act and do what is necessary.
If you raise your standards high enough, certain things will become utterly unacceptable.
If you raise your standards high enough, you might choose to not have to pay any interest on credit card debts.
If you raise your standards high enough, you might reach a level where it’s unthinkable to still be working on a 9 to 5 job at the age of 30.
If you raise your standards high enough, it could even become horrifying to not be earning at least a certain amount of astronomical figure per year.
So the question now is: How high are you prepared to raise your standards?
2. Make a Real DECISION, not a fake one!
Did you know that the word ‘decide’ came from the Latin word decidere, which literally means “to cut off”?
So when you decide to retire at age 40 or have a portfolio of 30 real estate properties by the end of 2020, cut off all other options. Leave no room for any doubt or hesitation; leave no room for any other choice or possibility.
Decide now what you really want more than anything else, and vow to keep working until you get it.
When I say decide, I mean truly decide, NOT a half-assed “oh ok I’ll give it a try…”
“Do or not do. There is no try.” ~Yoda
Cut off all other options, remember? That’s what it means to be “single-minded”, and that’s the secret to mastery – choosing one option (and that same option) every time you’re presented with the choice.
Making a true decision to be rich could mean choosing to delay gratification every time you’re presented with the choice between indulgence and instant reward. For example, you may choose to drive a 10-year old banger and invest your money on things that create passive income rather than buying flashy sports cars. That is, until you’ve made enough money to buy a Sports car comfortably.
Making a true decision to be your own Boss could mean working your butt off during your free time – setting up multiple streams of passive income and committing to specific lifestyle changes, even if it could mean giving up or cutting back on your favorite things.
Yes it’s NOT easy – but you can bet your behind that it IS WORTH it! (and the only ones who ever said it’s easy are usually those trying to scam or con you, or they just inherited their money)
3. Write down your goals and truly commit to them.
Writing down your goals makes it more real and official in your mind.
But here’s the key: the pay-offs must mean A LOT to you. At the end of the day, a goal is just that: a goal. It means nothing until you give it meaning. So highlight in your mind what it means to you. And your reasons must excite you, energize you, and motivate you to jump out of bed every morning, ready to face yet another day to move forward!
Many goal setting books say that you ought to set your long-term goals so that they are clear, specific, measurable, time-bound, etc. I agree, but they also say you must be realistic.
The problem with being realistic is that it’s just a mental concept. So I’d say you’re better off setting goals that are audacious, BIG and hairy! What you must be realistic about, i think is your assessment and allocation of your resources when you’re executing your action plan. But your long-term goals themselves must be BIG.
You can then break down your long term goals to short-term goals so you have a clear idea about what you aim to accomplish per month, per week and per day.
You must have a goal so lofty, so grand, so amazing, so WORTHY – that you’re willing to give anything and everything to achieve it!
Are you ready to step up and dream BIG dreams? Then write them down.
4. Bring yourself to commit to your goals on ALL levels
By ALL levels I mean committing emotionally, intellectually, mentally, physically, spiritually – to achieving the desired outcome!
Ever wondered why you keep doing things that you’re “not supposed to do”?
You know what I mean: spending too much when you know it’ll sabotage your financial goals? Or eating too much when you know you’re supposed to cut down on food? Or spending your weekend sleeping too much when you know you ought to be outside running your fat off?
Well that’s because there’s literally 2 sides of you battling with each other.
One side wants to be your best self ever – fit, gorgoeus, rich, financially free, happy, healthy, wise, generous, spiritually fulfiled, accomplished, etc. You may think of this as your big, strong Self.
The other side wants to just stay the same and not change at all. This side of you wants you to remain in your comfort zone. This part of you is happy to just do what everyone else does, give the minimum required, achieve the least possible accomplishments. You may think of this as your small fearful self.
Now, it’s actually your subconscious mind that’s responsible for dictating your habits and behaviour. If your small, fearful self is winning more often, but in your conscious mind you really want your Big strong self to win more often, chances are that you’d been giving mixed messages to your subconscious mind.
What you need to do is to re-program your Subconscious Mind with positive instructions and thus develop positive habits as opposed to negative ones.
The key is to program your mind to focus on your desires for Self-actualization, or realizing your highest potentials and unleashing what you are truly capable of.
Simple tips on how you could do this are re-reading your goals every day with super-charged emotions, focusing on your goals constantly and visualizing your desired outcome at least once a day, every day. Tools to help you do this are listed in the Recommendations Section below.
If you’re sniggering at the idea of reciting affirmations and creative visualization, think again. Note that this is the same technique that the top athletes and most successful entrepreneurs in the world practice. If it works for these champions, it should be good enough to work for you, too.
